UX Challenges

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), developed E-Sushrut, a Hospital Management Information System (HMIS). It aims to revolutionize healthcare management by providing accurate, electronically stored medical records for streamlined patient care.

The UX objectives of this project were to:

  • To evaluate the current usability, accessibility and overall user satisfaction of the E-sushrut system
  • Identify areas for improvement and optimisation

E-Sushrut - UX Challenges

Our Process

Our process started with an active collaboration with stakeholders to obtain a thorough comprehension of the system and its goals followed by on-site research at AIIMS hospital and Mohalla Clinic, to uncover firsthand user challenges. The audit highlighted additional issues including data fragmentation, information retrieval challenges, and potential inaccuracies.

The insights and feedback gathered were used to create a framework outlining the five essential elements every HMIS system should incorporate

Our Solution

We crafted 'SHIFT,' a UX framework for designing exceptional Hospital Management Information Systems. The aptly named SHIFT Framework symbolises the change towards creating improved systems aligned with UX best practices

The SHIFT Framework elaborates on 5 basic principles of user experience: Structural blueprint, harmony of components, Interface aesthetics and Interaction, form design and table design.

The Outcome

We developed a framework outlining five essential components for E-sushrut and similar systems. This framework aims to enhance hospital management, making systems more efficient and effective by streamlining operations, improving patient care, and optimizing resource management.

Its implementation is expected to significantly impact various healthcare facilities, including government hospitals, clinics, and AIIMS institutes. Ultimately, this framework will contribute to better healthcare information delivery across these institutions.
